American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Elects New President, Dr. Gerald Edds

Last month, during the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery's annual scientific meeting, members elected Kentucky cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gerald Edds as the new President.

“To be elected president of the leading organization for cosmetic surgeons worldwide is an incredible honor,” said Dr. Edds. “The AACS remains the trusted source for the highest quality training and continuing medical educations for doctors practicing cosmetic surgery. We will continue to set the standard in these areas and expand our presence internationally.”

The meeting, held in Las Vegas, also gave members the chance to learn more about the latest advances in cosmetic surgery.

This year's scientific meeting attracted more than 700 medical professionals, which is record-setting attendance for the AACS meeting.

Presenters included Dr. Rhys Branman of Little Rock, presenting on the topic of “Preoperative Planning for the Breast Augmentation Patient ” during the Foundations of Cosmetic Breast Surgery session.

Other cosmetic surgery topics included Advanced Topics in Body Contouring and Post-Bariatric Surgery; Rhinoplasty and Otoplasty; Blepharoplasty and Browlift; Advanced Topics in Breast Surgery; and Advanced Topics in Face and Neck Surgery.

Sessions were customized for each specialty within the field, focusing on best practices, practice gaps, patient safety and quality improvement.

The meeting was part of the academy's educational mission – to advance the specialty of cosmetic surgery and quality patient care.

Keynote speakers came from around the world, including Dr. Jean Carruthers, of Vancouver, Canada, who is a pioneer of the cosmetic use of botulinum A exotoxin, and Dr. Luitgard Wiest, of Munich, Germany, a renowned dermatologist.
