Study Confirms Permanent Fat Removal with Liposuction

tulsa fat removed permanentlyLiposuction may give patients a permanent removal of fat cells, according to the findings of a new study. This news means that fat cells will not spontaneously regrow in the future, as many previously believed.

This is excellent news for patients who have already had a liposuction procedure or who are currently considering having one done.

The study, conducted by the Swanson Center in Leawood, Kansas, is particularly significant given the popularity of liposuction. As the most requested procedure in the cosmetic surgery business, liposuction is often combined with many other procedures, including facial procedures and body contouring procedures.

Permanent Removal of Fat Through Liposuction

The in-depth Kansas study covered 294 patients who had liposuction as a solo procedure or in combination with other procedures, such as face lifts, abdominoplasties or breast surgeries. Patients experienced a significant loss of fat, averaging 2.2 pounds for liposuction alone and 4.6 pounds when performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck.

After one year, the patients in the study had no evidence of fat returning to those areas. This analysis was conducted with before-and-after photographs and the use of computerized measurements for maximum accuracy. According to the study, "“Removal of excess fat cells by liposuction and abdominoplasty provides a long-term reduction in treated areas. Measurements do not support the concept of fat re-accumulation in treated or untreated areas of the body."

These findings directly contest other reports that liposuctioned fat may regrow over time. With proper exercise, nutrition and proper healthcare, it should be possible for liposuctioned fat to be permanently removed from the body in the targeted areas, strengthening the appeal of what is already the world's most appealing procedure.

The key findings of the study were reported in a Cosmetic Surgery Times.
