THE NEW FOUND WEIGHT LOSS BENEFIT TUMMY TUCK PATIENTS ARE LOVING
The benefit that happens after the procedure
A couple months ago, we talked about what you can do to help keep the weight off after a tummy tuck. However, a new study shows that the tummy tuck itself may also be helpful for gradual weight loss after the procedure.
A recent study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has shown an increase in satiety with patients who have undergone a tummy tuck. Satiety is the measure of how full a person feels after eating a certain amount of food during a given meal. The majority of the tummy tuck patients studied had reported feeling fuller while also eating smaller meals following their procedure.
How the tummy tuck helped patients continue to shed weight
The study showed that those who had more fat removed during their tummy tuck – sometimes via liposuction – continued to lose weight after their surgery. Fatty tissue is believed to contain a hormone that increases one’s appetite, so when this fat is removed, they will often have a decreased appetite. The more fat tissue removed during the procedure, the more likely a patient is to continue healthy weight management moving forward.
While this exciting new study will likely increase the number of people looking to have the procedure, there are several different body contouring procedures available, so it is important to know which is right for you.
