‘Short Scar Breast Lift’ article most popular in ‘Plastic Surgery Practice’

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

If you browse the Monthly Top Ten online stories of Plastic Surgery Practice this month, you’ll see Dr. Cuzalina’s article titled “What Is the Best Short Scar Lift?” residing at #1.

A ’short scar lift’ avoids the use of a long incision within the inframammary fold (where the breast and chest meet).  The question is a commonly debated topic among cosmetic surgeons who perform breast lift surgery, and this article includes a discussion of the various short-scar techniques performed today.

The truth of the matter is that as long as patients present different anatomical considerations, and hold different aesthetic preferences, no ‘best’ technique exists.  Choosing the best technique means aiming for the most satisfying result with the least amount of risk.

You can read the article here. Please be aware: toward the end of the article, there are some images of real surgery taking place.

Tennis Star Says She Wants A Breast Reduction

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Halep2Romanian tennis star Simona Halep,  the junior French Open champ of 2008, said that she plans to undergo breast reduction surgery later this year.

News sources in the UK report that Ms. Halep has complained about her large (34 DD) breasts, saying they have slowed her reaction time on the court and caused discomfort. “It’s the weight that troubles me – my ability to react quickly”, she told The Sun.

Ms. Halep is now ranked 317th in the world.

Women pursue breast reduction surgery for a several reasons, increased mobility being just one of them. One breast reduction patient stated, “Before I didn’t want to run anywhere, [not] even across the street. If something happened, I would not run.  It was painful and embarrassing” (Klassen 2009).

Beside issues with physical activity, many women hope to alleviate irritation around their bra strap and underneath the breast, pain in the back and neck, and discomfort during sleeping.

The procedure can be described as a ‘normalizing’ experience for women. Once the surgery is complete, patients often say they are less self-conscious, they fit into more ‘regular’ sized clothes, and their shape is more characteristic of ‘the norm’ for the female body.
