Latisse

Latisse is the latest eyelash enhancer distributed by Allergan, the medical giant behind Botox and Juvederm. It is the “first and only FDA approved eyelash-growth treatment. The drug is designed for the treatment of hypotrichosis i.e. inadequate eyelashes.

When applied to the base of the upper eyelashes once daily, Latisse maintains their growth phase, producing longer, thicker lashes and more of them. The effects of Latisse are not permanent, so patients have to keep using it or their lashes will return to normal.

Allergan discovered Latisse inadvertently during a clinical trial for a known glaucoma treatment called Lumigan. When patients reported that Lumigan produced significantly longer eyelashes, Allergan began investigating the drug for cosmetic use.

The results of Latisse require about 1 month to recognize. According to Allergan, full results are seen at 4 months.
