What we do at the Oklahoma Vein Center

Unsightly varicose veins are a serious and disabling condition. Spider veins are often a cosmetic issue but can also be associated with venous reflux disease. The skilled surgeons at the Oklahoma Vein Center can diagnose and treat the causes of painful and unsightly veins that can lead to skin breakdown and disability.

Symptoms of Venous Disease

  • Varicose veins: their presence is associated with abnormal function of the venous system and one-way valves that promote normal blood flow.
  • Spider veins: tiny blue, purple or red lines that branch out like a spiderweb, on the legs. Often accompanied by reticular veins that must be treated at the same time. These can also cause unsightly areas on the face and base of the nose.
  • Leg swelling and pain: abnormal recirculation of venous blood within the legs can cause pain and swelling, caused by poor function of the venous valves.
  • Leg ulcers, itching, discoloration, and even restless leg syndrome can be symptoms of venous reflux and stasis disease.
  • Hemangioma: small cluster of blood vessels that may reside near the surface of your skin, also known as a vascular birthmark

Vein Treatments

Dr. Jeff Swetnam and the Oklahoma Vein Center are proud to offer highly effective treatments for all venous stasis problems from spider veins, to ulcerations and varicosities. If you are suffering from any of these chronic problems, we offer vein therapies to help you.

Cool-Touch Endovenous Laser Treatment

Laser vein treatment closes the problematic varicose vein through a venous puncture, with very little discomfort, minimal downtime and a resolution of symptoms. The success rate is very high and we are committed to caring for our patients until the problem is resolved. Laser vein treatment is often combined with sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy

Our foam sclerotherapy procedure typically takes 30 – 45 minutes or can be combined with laser vein closure. With a fine needle, spider veins and medium-sized varicose veins are injected with a sclerosing solution. The solution triggers an inflammatory response that closes the vein. Discomfort is minimal, but some patients choose to take an oral sedative before the vein treatment.

Microphlebectomy

In many cases, abnormally large varicose veins need to be surgically removed. The veins are marked before Dr. Swetnam makes tiny incisions to hook and gently remove the vein with a surgical instrument. This may involve multiple small incisions that only require a small bandage after the procedure.

Body Areas for Vein Treatment

  • Thighs
  • Calves
  • Leg ulcers
  • Facial veins

Can vein treatment be covered by insurance?

The short answer: Health insurance often covers treatment of varicose veins and venous reflux, but does not cover treatment of cosmetic spider veins.

In most cases endovenous ablation is covered by insurance if you are having symptoms from varicose veins and have failed therapy with compression stockings.

Spider veins are usually considered cosmetic and will not be covered by health insurance.

In any case, the Oklahoma Vein Center offers affordable plans for financing your vein treatment.
